Things Hidden and Things Revealed
Reflection
"The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law." This single verse addresses one of the most persistent human frustrations: why does God not explain everything? Why are there unanswered questions, unseen purposes, hidden plans? Moses' answer is disarmingly simple: some things are God's business, not ours. He has not disclosed them — and we are not entitled to demand He does. God's hiddenness is not a failure of communication; it is the freedom of sovereignty. He is not obligated to reveal His full counsel to His creatures. But the second half of the verse is equally important: the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever. There is an enormous amount that God has chosen to reveal: His character, His saving acts, His commands, His promises, His redemption plan. The revealed things are enough to live by. They are enough to obey. They are enough to pass on to children. The hidden things do not need to be known — they need to be trusted. Much of human spiritual anxiety comes from demanding access to the hidden things while neglecting the revealed ones. We want to know God's reasons before we obey His commands. We want the full picture before we take the step. But the call of faith is to live by what has been given, trusting what has not been shown.

Deuteronomy 29:29 sits at the theological hinge of the covenant ceremony. The surrounding context deals with future generations and what they will face. Moses could not explain everything about Israel's future — exile, return, the long silence of the intertestamental period. So he gave them not an explanation but a principle: trust what God has revealed; entrust what He has not to His character.
Truth
You do not need to understand God's hidden purposes in order to obey His revealed commands. The revealed is enough to act on. The hidden is enough to trust. Demanding the hidden before acting on the revealed is a way of putting conditions on faith.

Name one area where you have been waiting for more revelation before you obey what has already been revealed. What has God clearly shown you that you have not yet acted on? Act on that today. Leave the hidden things with Him.
