Ruth

Biography
Ruth was a Moabite woman who chose to remain with her widowed mother-in-law Naomi after the deaths of their husbands, even when Naomi urged her to return to her own people and gods. She gleaned in the fields of Boaz, a relative of Naomi's, showing industrious faithfulness. Boaz noticed her character and kindness to Naomi and acted as the kinsman-redeemer by marrying her. Ruth bore Obed, the grandfather of King David — and is one of four women named in Matthew's genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Spiritual Lesson
Ruth models covenant loyalty — the kind of steadfast love that goes beyond obligation or self-interest. She chose the God of Israel not through dramatic revelation but through the testimony of a grieving woman's life. Her story teaches that faithfulness to people and faithfulness to God are deeply connected. As a Gentile who entered Israel's covenant community, she foreshadows all who enter God's family through Christ.
