Biography
Zechariah was a post-exilic prophet and priest who ministered alongside Haggai to encourage the rebuilding of the Temple. His book is the longest of the minor prophets and among the most visionary — containing eight night visions and messianic prophecies remarkable in their detail. He foretold the Messiah entering Jerusalem on a donkey (9:9), the thirty pieces of silver (11:12-13), the piercing of Christ (12:10), and the mourning for him as for an only son. He was a major source for John's Revelation.
Spiritual Lesson
Zechariah's central word — 'not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit' — is the essential counterweight to every strategy, program, and human effort in ministry. The work of God is not scaled up by greater resources but by greater dependence on the Spirit. His messianic visions show that God has been composing the salvation story in precise detail long before its events unfold — an invitation to trust his sovereignty in our own stories.
