Biography
Andrew was Peter's brother and one of the first disciples called by Jesus. He was previously a disciple of John the Baptist. The first thing he did upon meeting Jesus was bring his brother Peter — a pattern of quiet, faithful witness that defines his ministry. He also brought the boy with loaves and fishes to Jesus (John 6) and brought Greeks seeking Jesus to Philip and then to Jesus (John 12). Church tradition records he was crucified on an X-shaped cross, now known as the 'Saint Andrew's Cross.'
Spiritual Lesson
Andrew is the great 'second man' of the New Testament — never in the spotlight, always bringing others to Jesus. His quiet faithfulness resulted in Peter (the leader of the church), the five loaves becoming a miracle, and Greeks entering the kingdom. The most significant acts of ministry are often not the ones on stage but the ones that bring someone else to the One who is.
