David

I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.Acts 13:22

Biography

David was a shepherd boy from Bethlehem who killed Goliath, became Israel's greatest king, and authored much of the Psalms. God made an everlasting covenant with him, promising that his throne would be established forever. He brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and desired to build God a temple. He also fell gravely — committing adultery with Bathsheba and engineering the death of her husband Uriah. Yet when the prophet Nathan confronted him, he said without excuse: 'I have sinned against the Lord.' Jesus was called 'Son of David.'

Spiritual Lesson

David's life teaches us that God looks at the heart, not the impressive exterior. His greatest strength was not his sword but his relentless pursuit of God through prayer and worship. His greatest failure teaches that no spiritual height makes us immune to temptation. His Psalm 51 repentance remains the blueprint for honest return to God.
